Prevention of Infections

Preventing and Controlling the Spread of Infections

The CSSSTK has set up several measures to prevent and control the spread of infections in the institution. Routine screening of admissions, compulsory handwashing upon entering and exiting the institution, staff training, and implementing basic practices and additional precautions, are among the many measures that have been introduced by our health centre.

Nosocomial Infections

A nosocomial infection is actually acquired during an episode of care administered by an institution of the health network, regardless of where the care is administered.

Several microorganisms may cause nosocomial infections, such as the influenza virus and gastro-enteritis. MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus), VRE (vancomycin-resistant Enteroccocus),and Clostridium difficile are other bacteria which may cause the infection. Nosocomial infections represent significant problems for our health system because they are associated with increased morbidity and mortality. They are also responsible for longer hospital stays.

Set the example and wash your hands often!

To prevent the transmission of pathogens causing nosocomial infections, awareness must be raised on the importance of basic practices. Handwashing is the most effective preventive measure against microorganisms. The purpose of handwashing is to prevent the transfer of microorganisms from one person to another. In summary, inadequate hand hygiene can have adverse consequences on your health as the acquisition of pathogens is usually transmitted through hand contact.

We cannot say it often enough - handwashing is the key to the successful prevention and control of infections.
