Legal Missions and Services

The Three (3) Missions of the CSSS

The Centre de Santé et de Services Sociaux (CSSS) de Témiscaming-et-de-Kipawa is a multi-purpose institution with the following three missions, as defined by the Act Respecting Health Services and Social Services:

The Centre Local de Services Communautaires (CLSC) (Local Community Services Centre)

“The mission of a CLSC is to offer front-line health care and ongoing social services to the people of the region it serves for prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, or social integration.  To this end, the institution operating such a centre shall ensure that anyone requiring such services, either for themselves or for their families, are contacted or met, that their needs are assessed, and that the services required are provided within its facilities or in the vicinity of  the person’s living environment i.e., at a school, the workplace, or in their home, and, if necessary, that they are referred to the centres, organizations, or persons most able to help them.”

The Centre Hospitalier (CH) (Hospital Centre)

“The mission of a CH is to offer diagnostic services as well as general and specialized medical care. To this end, the institution operating such a centre shall mainly receive, by referral, anyone requiring such services or care, ensuring that their needs are assessed, and that the services required, including nursing care and specialized psychosocial, preventive, or rehabilitative services, are provided within its facilities or, if necessary, that they are referred as quickly as possible to the centres, organizations, or persons most able to help them.”

The Centre d'Hébergement et de Soins de Longue Durée (CHSLD) (Assisted-Living and Long-Term Care Facility)

“The mission of a CHSLD is to offer temporary or permanent alternative accommodation, housing, assistance, support, and supervisory services, as well as rehabilitation, psychosocial and nursing care, and pharmaceutical and medical services to adults who, because of loss of functional or psychosocial autonomy, can no longer live in their usual setting, despite support from their circle of family and friends.”
